Staff absolutely great.. breakfast very good.. a bit noisy in the alley out the back but great stay

Decent hotel as a base when you’re in Edinburgh. We live not far from the city centre but while at a wedding wanted a more convenient means of getting home/not rushing for a train, and the city centre location of this hotel provided just that. It was a tad noisy and was very busy with comings and going’s but I think that’s just part of being in such a location and not an issue with the hotel itself. We stayed here before the Fringe Festival starts and the prices were fair, however I am aware prices rise significantly during the Festival. This is a ‘budget’ or ‘no frills’ hotel and the high price tag in summer is due to demand, not because it’s a luxury hotel. Keep that in mind and you won’t be disappointed.

The hotel is adequate, majorly overpriced during the festival, but my biggest gripe is that breakfast should be included if you pay £350 per night, feels like daylight robbery asking for a further £13 per person for breakfast. Will not be returning.

Let me start with the good…. The staff was great.. truly.. very friendly and helpful. And that does say a lot. That being said. This was my first time at any Ibis hotel. And it truly will be my last. I understand that i was there during fringe.. so i expected a bit of noisy crazy. But.. i was so loud…. And the noise went on until sometimes 2 in the morning. Music… yelling and general rowdy crowd stuff. So that was not restful at all. The bed was hands down one of the worse if not worse bed i have slept in in years. I use the word slept lightly. It was uncomfortable. The shampoo/conditioner and body wash were just cheap. Ok.. so i know i sound like a horrible snob.. but i guess i did not really know the true basic level of the hotel. I had heard good things in the past. I travel for business so it is not like i am spending my days in the room.. i am really there just to sleep. I did have breakfast there my first morning.. and even that was subpar. Truly.. i was looking forward to some eggs and sausage….and neither were very good. I did not do the breakfast again. But at the end of the day i felt like i was staying in a college dorm with a private bath. I didn’t even stay in the dorms when i was in college. The location of course is grand.. i was able to get anywhere fast. And i do wish i had better things to say.. but sadly.. this was my first and last stay at an Ibis hotel.

The hotel is really well located with nearly every major attraction within walking distance. The staff were really friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were very good. The room itself was fine, however the window in our room could not be opened (I think due to safety purposes I'm not sure). Because of this the room got very stuffy as there was no fresh air coming through. The climate control unit did help somewhat but not much. Overall a great stay but was a shame about the stuffiness of the room.
